Animator vs. Animation

Here I found this really cool link that I think is well worth watching, it is very clever!

EASTER BREAK

Well its that time again! over easter I intend to work on my flash project and hopefully finish it and I also intend to carry on with my visual essay, so we shall see!

Interactive Media

I have been working all week on my flash, I have uploaded all my pub pictures for my backgrounds and made all my text fly in. I have installed my videos and am just waiting for tomorrow to get some help with the score system and how to make my house fly, also I need some help on my action script. Here are some of the pictures below for the backgrounds I have used on my flash:

Interactive Media

I have created my 20 questions for my pub quiz and made two animations with sound, they are pixilations of a beer being poured and emptied. My idea is for them to show when you click on a a right or wrong question. I have tried to download them on here but it would not work for some reason. I am also attempting to make a flying house animation that appears on all the slides, as the game is called beat the landlord, to make it more interesting and fun to play.

My Secret Lair: Final Version

This does have music in the background but for some copy right reason it won't play, I
have tried to look for another one but can not find one, however when I present this in my
presentation I do have a copy that works.

Seminar 16th March: Jools

Today we were put into groups and asked to come up with five question to develop your skills, my group came up with five but Jools thought only one of them was good, so here are the five questions anyway:

1. How much time do you have to put in your work each week?
2. Where do you go for resources?
3. How do you go about critically analysing your work?
4. How does the final work help process your next piece?
5. (the only good question) How has your work changed since you started the course?

We were then told to go find another group and ask each other's questions, as I only had one good one I asked no5. and the feedback I got was: I feel my work has changed from graphical to digital as I came into this course thinking I was doing graphics, but I have learnt so much new software and I really enjoy it.

I was then asked their questions which were:

1. What's the most interesting thing you have discovered?

The most interesting thing I have discovered is 3ds max, as I realise how much work goes into an animation now its amazing, also seeing how it all works, it's not as hard as you think in some ways but is in others. For example its easy to make some things but its hard to make them effective and work the way you want them to.

2. What have you done that has challenged you?

Recently I took out a camera, tripod and light to start a documentary as I think I am going to choose Moving Image for my pathway and I felt it was a challenge as I did not really know what I was doing and I was doing it individually so it wasn't like I could ask anyone, as I went home to start my documentary.

3. Have you thought how you could integrate your research into your work/ progress, what have you learnt?

I feel my research has really benefitted me in my work as it has opened my eyes and mind to new ideas I would have never thought of. It has progressed me by bringing my research and work together to see more.

4. How have you acted on recent feedback?

When I get feedback, I will go talk to the person face to face about it or by email but more face to face to get a better understanding of what I did wrong or right and how to make it better.

Overall I feel I did not get much feedback from the people I asked questions but that is because I feel our group did not understand the task, I mean I know I did not really understand it. I feel being asked a different groups questions it opened my mind, seeing where I spend my time and how I work. I found it helpful for myself as I got to reflect on myself but I wish I made it more helpful for the other group as I feel I did not help them reflect in their work. It was a good way to compare yourself to what other people where and are doing.

Lecture 16th March

Focal Peripheral Contextual

Where is the narrative?

In today's lecture we started off talking about where is the narrative in last week's film called Homicide, which lead us onto an anti-semi conspiracy which then lead on to the relationships between things: collage/montage, context, narrative, composition, structure

What are things? Anything/ everything is a signifier

Semiotics:

Signifier: Signified
What it is: what is means

A signifier achieves meaning (becomes a signified) through its relationships to other signifiers

Field of view - timecode- Mike Figgins 2000

This film was quite interesting in how its improvised and shot all at the same time but in four different perspectives. I did feel it was to hard to follow, I would focus on one of the four parts but then not understand the other three parts. There was audio in all four which made it a little easier to focus on one but then confusing because you were hearing different things, however you could make out which part they were coming from. Overall I really did not enjoy it and did not see at all how it has helped me, I did not understand the storyline it was dense.

Here are two interesting clips I found on youtube, it reminds me of how Honda created their advert called the cog!

Seminar's 9th March

Jools: we had been set a task the week before to write an abstract of what pathway we wanted to do and then we brought them to class yesterday. We went around reading other peoples and writing down if there pathway was clear, if the research process was clear if so why and if not why not and also if they talked of any practitioners. After that we started to make a visual essay from the abstract people had written. I got some interesting feedback which was fair most people said I had stated my pathway but that my research process was not very clear and that i had stated practitioners.

Thing is I am stuck with choosing between Animation and Moving Image so I am finding it a bit hard. I really want to go into advertising like the adverts on the TV for example the rollacoster for Barclays, but i'm unsure if i want to film it or make it. I am not a strong drawer and i believe you need to be for animation and I do not enjoy being on the computer all the time. There fore film seems for appropriate for me but we will see.

Interactive Media

Today I managed to put my two videos in Flash which I made for what happens if you get one of the pub questions right or wrong. I have all my 20 questions and I plan to take some pictures of a pub this week to use in my flash. I am going to play the game Beat the Landlord too, to get some ideas to what keeps the person keen to play. I need some more interesting things in it to make it seem fun.

Lecture 9th March

(film)

Homicide Squad was written and directed by David Mamet. It is about an old Jewish lady who lived in New York, who was an owner of a candy store and has been gunned down for apparently having her fortune hidden in her basement. A Jewish homicide detective investigates the minor murder as he thinks but then he falls in with a Zionist group as a result.

A Zionist is " a worldwide Jewish movement that results in the establishment and development of the sate of Israel".

Final 3d Animation Picture of "My Secret Lair"

Sunday 7 March 2010

Animation- My Secret Lair

I decided to go back to my last project "My Secret Lair" and to make a few changes to the bits I was not happy with. My lair was based on the power-puff girls and I realised I did not include many toys or girly things. I was also un-happy with the lighting in the open kitchen area you could not even tell that was a kitchen and finally in my lab I felt that you would not know it was a lab. Therefore I have included some bunny rabbit teddy bears, a phone which was the hotline in the series of the power-puff girls. Also I sorted the lighting in the kitchen and made a few more objects in the lab. I also on my television screen had a picture but it was not relevant so I put the power-puff girls on i. I also hung a picture of the professor and the girls in the lair too to make it seem more homey. I was also un-happy with the video layout out at the end where it seemed to go through the television so I made it hover over now which looks a lot better. I then rendered it but realised there was a few more things I was not happy with. Here are some pictures of the changes I did however:

Further on going

I am going to make a few more changes then I will post my final pictures up and the video. I am not happy with the lighting where the tea pot is and also behind the television and in the entrance of the lair. Also the picture on the television seems to be wonky and my lamp in the lab seems to be being eaten by the floor. The rug in the lab seems to be a little too high off the floor and finally one of the steps in the playroom is too close the the big cushioned pillows.

Seminars 2nd March

Today Jools introduced us to Sketchup 7 which is a really easy way of creating houses or anything you want really, I have downloaded it on my laptop and think it is really useful and kind of a fun software.

Online Environments

Yesterday I had an interesting lesson, learning how to make a series of questions and be able to click on them and they take you to the right page. I have put together a bunch of questions for my pub quiz but I am basing it on a new game I recently played at a pub called Beat the Landlord. My questions are based on music, cities, characters, drugs, old facts, transport, animals, a real general sense of knowledge, there are going to be 20 questions. I have written out a rough idea of how the score system would work at the end of the game.

End of the Game

0 Points- Barred
1-3 Points- Buy the round
4-6 Points- Buy a pint for the Landlord
7-10 Points- Average Drinker
11-15 Points- Weekly Drinker
16-19 Points- Happy Hour
20 Points- The pub landlord.

I also plan to use a bit of animation in my quiz too which I learnt from last term in animation, I want to do some pixilation of a beer pouring. Basically if you got a question wrong your beer would get lower and if you got a question right you would get more beer. I also plan to put sound affects with this too to make it more realistic and exciting.

Lecture 2nd March

What is technology?

  • Broad definition.
  • A way of speeding up and improving things.
  • A practical application from research to industry.
  • A continuous development.
  • A structure of knowledge which relates to a bit of equipment.
  • Multimedia.
  • Enhances us as human beings.

What is History? who writes it? who makes it?

  • Anything that has happened in the past.
  • Anyone can make history.
  • History is not always planned, it can just happen.
  • Old Times.
  • A recording of the past from their own perspective times, events.
  • Human interpretation of past events.
  • Not necessarily a recording.
  • Anyone makes, writes it from this point in time.

David Hockney- Secret Knowledge 1990- Imagination (BBC Film)

To be really honest I felt this film was not in any way helpful to me, I feel as of lately I am taking a fine art course. The week before this we analysed a bunch of pictures which was really boring and unhelpful too. I feel since being put together with theatre students they are benefitting more from these lectures than multimedia students. I have talked to a bunch of people and they too also feel the same anyone else?
