Visual Essay

Today I have been working all morning on my visual essay on premier pro and I have a plan!

I have managed to download really good quality movies of the adverts I am interested in thanks to a 3rd year student who is doing moving image. I have sorted out all my interviews and I am showing what I feel is relevant, however the links to the whole three interviews will be in the bibliography. Also I will be linking certain directors together of there adverts and relating it back to me and reflecting it on my own work. I have decided to include about 20 seconds of my first one shot moving image project from October, then including about 20 seconds of my new moving image project which I am currently doing now. I have also decided to have a voice over that will properly run for the whole movie, the movie is 6 minutes at the moment and I sure it should not be over 10, really I want to try and make it 5 minutes.

So it is going to be a busy next two and a half weeks! as the deadline is the 18th!!! However I would like to try and round this up in a week and a half so I can focus on my moving image project as we are filmimg next week and then editing the following week! We shall see, If I keep working as hard as I am, by coming in each day there should be no problem!

Flash

Today I worked on my Pub Quiz and I got the scoring system to work, plus I got the two different videos to appear where I want them too yah!!!

So all that is left is to get my flying house gif to work and I want to show when the score appears a few words that go with the particular scores. Then my Pub Quiz is FINISHED! Woop!

Moving Image

Today I met up with my group and we have sat down and discussed everything and planned our next two weeks out so that we are on time and organised. We have found all 3 actors/actresses a man called Mike, a woman called Fiona and a woman called Beth. We have printed all our risk assessment forms and made one for all the different locations, one for simpson's bedroom, simpson's kitchen, warehouse, street, Byron Lecture, room in waverley.

We have shared out all the shots and are going to do a couple of drawings each, then we are going to exchange these and put them all on our blogs.

Visual Essay

Today I have been working on Premier Pro for my visual essay, last week I captured and edited my interviews. Today I had an idea instead of you watching the same questions being asked to three different people, I have edited it so that you hear the question once and you get three possibly answers. I have also gone through the interviews individually and cut out what I thought was irrevalant and useless information. I am aiming to make this film no longer than 6-7 minutes, really im aiming at 5 but I have already gone over that and I have not finished, we shall see! :D

Today I went to the library to get out a book called Advertising Now by Julius Wiedemann which I thought would maybe help me with my visual essay but it turned out the Library staff could not seem to find the book for me. However I found this book called The Making of a Television Commercial by H. Ted Busch and Terry Landeck. I have started to read this and it seems very interesting and I have already learnt some useful things for example, " And the purpose of advertising is to inform the general public of a product.s performance and/ or function, and to stimulate enough interest in it to convince the viewer to buy it". Also that to make a commercial stand out from hundreds of others is very hard to do. " The challenge is to deliver the message in an interesting and meaningful manner- and this is where the creative side of advertising comes in.

Visual Essay

Right things have totally changed now! I am not doing my visual essay on powerpoint, I am doing it on Premier Pro! I have captured and edited all of my three interviews and put them onto premier pro also I have put a title page and a bunch of jpegs of adverts I particularly like. My next plan is to get movie clips of the adverts I like and to put it into premier. I think I am going to do a bunch of voice overs for the practitioners and explaining each of my pictures/movies in my visual essay. It makes more sense for my visual essay to be in premier as I am choosing the Moving Image pathway!

Moving Image: Seminar 23rd April

On Friday, our group sat down and planned out our storyboards, three of us out of the group also went to view one of the locations! being the warehouse. Myself and our group is going to meet sometime this week to plan out everything so that we are on track and ready to start filming! as time is short! We know all the locations we just need to do risk assessments and to make sure we can use these places! Also we need to sit down and talk about our new scene, basically just get everything organised. We have one actress called Beth but are still looking for another woman and a man too! Busy Busy!

Lecture 20th April

I just do not understand most of our lectures! It seems from most people's point of view we are taking business and economics! It s good to know what is going on with the governments spending (credit crunch), how does this help us in multimedia though??? please someone tell me? We should be learning about multimedia not the government! what is going on??

Visual Essay

Today I have been working on my visual essay, at the moment I have 4 practitioners and many images and 3 interviews. I am just trying to put it all together on Powerpoint, without it being boring or a list. I am trying to make it interesting and make it flow well together.

Interactive Media

Today I finished my action-script on my quiz and it all works WOOP! Now to make the score system work, to make my videos appear where I want them to, also to make my gift work and to make a new slide to go to when you have finished questions in a certain topic, as my homepage has moving text it takes awhile watching it doing the same thing after each topic! Lots of little bits to do, however I have another surgery session with David on Friday so this should fingers crossed be done soon so I can concentrate on my visual essay and my new moving image project! :D

Interactive Media

Today I have been working on my flash ALL DAY! and I am very happy with what I have done. I have started to make all the slides go to the right place so the action-script is going well. I have also added some cool affects too! I shall be working on this most of this week so hopefully I will be done by next week! Woop!

Music Video

I forgot to mention that some time last week we got an email about a music video being made with real directors and producers. This would seem to be a great opportunity so I asked a-few of my friends to go and after having the issue of driving around trying to find it we finally arrived. However we felt very uncomfortable, we met the lady in charge who said they were running an hour late! However the music was not the kind I was thinking of, it was total grunge! it was awful and giving us all headaches so we decided to leave. However it was an interesting event and something different. The email should have been more clear when I read it saying wear all black in no way did it make me think I would have to dance for a grunge band! woops my bad! However if i stayed I do not think I would be able to look like I was enjoying myself, therefore I would ruin it for the band.

Interactive Media

Today I had a sugery session with David to help me on my flash, as I had a few things I needed to make work but I could not however do this by myself! It turns out I was using Actionscript 2 silly me!!! However now I am using the right bit of software being Actionscript 3! lol I have started to work on my actionscript and it is slowly working yah! I still have a few other things that I need to make work but this is the most important so once this is done I shall we continuing with the rest of the bits! =)

Moving Image Seminar 16th April

Yesterday Helen, Vyte, Salome, Alec and myself decided to be in a group to make our moving image film. I took the role of Director, Helen: Producer, Vyte: Editor, Alec: Sound and Salome: Camera. We were given a script called Ambient Vapour which we gathered as a group was something to do with an addiction and that it was a mystery/drama genre. We had to make a presentation on what we thought of the script, what are new scene would be, actors we would be using, the locations we would film, sound we would use and to show examples of pieces of work we liked. We basically had to put a rough idea out there to show people what we were thinking of doing. I ended up presenting to the whole class which I completely failed at SORRY GROUP! I knew what I wanted to say but for some reason it was coming out all the wrong way, I must have been really nervous! :( We have a rough idea that we want to show in our new scene a double screen with the girl talking to herself, but we would show more than one of her doing this I think. So kind of like you would see her then a good person on the left and a bad person on her right, she would be having a discussion with herself deciding what she should do. We gathered from the script she can t remember what she had an addiction to and her friend will not go with her or wait for her as she feels its a waste of energy! So we think her friend knows what it is but is not telling her, so it is like she needs to find out for herself, she needs to remember it for herself to decided if its the right or wrong thing! I think I can say for my group we have many ideas but we have not made anything concrete yet. Hopefully when we make our storyboards next friday we will make sense of what I was trying to present to the whole class and it will be wicked!

Visual Essay

Well this Visual Essay is anything but easy! I did however start it over Easter! I have chosen to do it on Moving Image as I feel this is the pathway I am most likely going to persue. I am doing it in Powerpoint, I have done a series of interviews to go into my essay as well to show other people perspectives on how they chose their pathways in their careers, to see how that could maybe help me!

Interactive Media, Visual Environments & Moving Image:

Tuesday we had a lecture where 3 second year students came in to talk to us about the three different pathways. I found this very useful and interesting to get an insight of what I will be doing next year and to have someone tell you in detail what is expected of you. I knew from the beginning I was not interested in Interactive Media and after hearing all the different codes, languages of action-scripts and the different softwares that are involved I was even more put off it. I have always been torn between Visual Environments and Moving Image and I feel after hearing the two people talk about them, that I am leaning more to film still. I mean there are 7 different assignments which is nice to have a variety of different topics, also 5 of them being individual and 2 being group work gives you an all round learning curve. Also hearing the different companies you could work with like the YMCA seems interesting and a good way of getting your foot through the door in a company. Virtual Environments seems really hard having 3 projects running simultaneously together, plus I do not think i would be interested in game design or visualisation so I would only be enjoying a 3rd of my actual course being animation. However the man mentioned you can then have an individual pathway which can then be defined within more pathways options, so that seems like it could be an option but still confusing I find. However I feel i am leaning more towards Moving Image, however I am still not 100% sure between Virtual Environments and Moving Image. However this lecture did help also I met up with a second year student before this which helped me even more.

Here is my 500 word rational describing your design decisions such as screen layout, user interaction and Action script used. Provide appropriate references to support your decisions and contextualise your practise.

After much research to design an entertainment interactive quiz on a topic of my own choice, I decided to create and design a pub quiz and include my own pixilation videos, pictures and questions.

My basic design was influenced by my regular visits to a pub called the horse and groom in my home Town Chelmsford where I play on a game machine, which has various games. I always seem to want to play a game called Beat the Landlord, which has many different questions and has a few animations. So I thought I would create my own version with some different ideas taken from other games I have played on this machine.

While the game Beat the Landlord has given me great inspiration in the design of my quiz I have also given it my own unique style while still calling it Beat the Landlord. I have designed a house, which represents the Pub with wings on it in three different designs.

If you get a question right a pixilation appears where a beer is being filled up and everyone cheers and the sound of beer pouring takes place. If you get a question wrong a pixilation appears where a beer is emptied and everyone boos. I have made an animation of the Pub flying to make it seem more interesting, fun and different which I thought was quite cool.

I have designed a house with wings on it to make it seems as if it is flying, I have drawn three different designs, the house is the same but in one design the wings are drawn high, then there is another design where the wings are drawn in the middle and finally a last design where the wings are drawn down. Therefore when I made it into a gift, the different pictures on a timeline will look as if the house is flying. The idea was to make the quiz more interesting and I wanted to show the house flying like an angel.

With regard to the questions and answers at first I was really unsure on what to base my quiz on, as I am not a big fan of quizzes. I find them quite boring but I thought I should pop down to the Horse and Groom and see which games interest me most and Beat the Landlord was one of them which has many general knowledge questions about the world.

I have enjoyed making this quiz, but I find flash very hard to understand so it has been quite a big task, for me when I cannot understand the software I find it very hard to commit to it and work with it on a practical basis. However I have been working on flash every other day for hours to finalize the design and to make it look the way I want to show it. I hope it shows all the hard work I have put in to it to make it look the way it does.

It is that time again where the holiday is over and so much needs to be done in 6 weeks!!!!
